    CLOSURE

DAD THIS COMES FROM MY WOUNDED HEART,
NOT TO HURT YOU OR PICK YOU APART.
YOU FEEL LIKE A STRANGER TO ME,
AND I NEED TO OPEN THE FLOODGATES SO I CAN BE FREE.
I'M SORRY I NEVER MADE YOU PROUD.
YOU MAY HAVE SAID YOU WERE BUT NOT OUT LOUD.
I KNOW YOU HAD DREAMS FOR ME, BUT DAD SO DID I.
BUT BECAUSE YOU WERE NEVER THERE FOR ME I MARRIED THE FIRST GUY.
HE WAS VERY CRUEL TO ME AND ALMOST STOLE MY SOUL,
I NEEDED YOU TO BE MY HERO AND YOUR LOVE TO FILL THE HOLE.
NOW YOU HAVE A BRAND NEW FAMILY AND A NEW LIFE.
TO KNOW THEY'LL GET THE BEST OF YOU, CUTS LIKE A KNIFE.
PLEASE TELL ME WHY YOU DON'T WANT US....
MY BROTHER AND I NEED YOU TO BE HONEST.
WE LOOKED FORWARD TO GETTING TO KNOW YOU AGAIN, BUT I GUESS A POSTCARD YOU'LL HAVE TO SEND.
HOPEFULLY DAD, IT'S NOT TOO LATE
WE ARE THE SPAWNS OF EVERYTHING YOU HATE.
DON'T THINK WE DON'T LOVE YOU OR CARE,
JUST WANT TO KNOW IF YOU EVER FELT PROUD OF US AND WAS THE LOVE EVER THERE?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
