Poem Commentary

For my wife, Mary Jo

Cuddling on a Saturday

CUDDLING ON A SATURDAY

Your skin is warm and close,
We seem to blend into one.
Speaking is optional.
A smile, a whisper, convey everything.

Fascinated with slender fingers,
Feeling your hand on my neck.
I feel connected to you, soul to soul.
The rings on our hands mark our
commitment, our children are
a statement of love.

I know from this moment on
that you will always be home, and
the storms in my life can never penetrate
the shelter you provide.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
