Poem Commentary

This poem comes from personal experience both sexual and physical abuse. I have endured both, in which I came to a crossroads and was determined to not let it defeat and/or consume me. I thank you for your time in reading this! Picture comes from www.crisdelora.com *credits. It is a perfect picture to the warrior I have become through my battles with such things and primarily why I am currently a blue belt in mixed martial arts, fighting my way to black belt excellence! As I am not only defiant to such things but intolerant of it!

Damaged But Not Broken

She hurts from tug of war,
Stripped from all but pain...
Won't acknowledge the damage done,
And walks while showing no shame.

Days and nights lost sleep,
Her diagnosis mentally ill...
She's damaged but not broken,
Naked but holds her will.

Desperation plunges,
Think they'll truly take her down?
No one sees the smiles in her heart,
Can only see the face that bears a frown.

They've beat her to a pulp,
But she's proven to rise above...
Even through broken bones and bruises,
She's still capable of love.

Yes, she hurts from all the pain,
Her bruises are for real...
But she is not to be underestimated,
For she is now ready to heal.

Six men to one woman,
Odds for them unspoken...
She may be down and bleeding,
She's only damaged but not broken.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
