Empty Words

You say that you love me,

You say it everyday;

Even if that’s the truth,

Why do I feel pain?

Sometimes your voice gives comfort;

Yet other times it’s pain;

Is your love a double-edged sword,

That tries to dull in vain?

I know it’s wrong to think this,

But I’ve felt this pain before;

Another once gave me her heart,

Then dropped mine on the floor.

You tell me that you’re different,

That you won’t break my heart;

History has taught me different,

“I love you” are empty words.
