Everything In Its Place

Everything In Its Place

Everything sitting still as the dust collects on the window sill
Everything making its presence known like every fiber that has been sown
Everything watching all the shooting stars go by
Everything in its place
Exactly where it should be

All the little things to all the gigantic things
All of them taking it in
All of them making the world spin
Looking at these things and how they go
What a fascinating world we do live in

Everything doing what its supposed to
Falling in place as it should
To take you down a path
To give light to your dreary little life

Hold it close but hold it gently
Protect it as you keep on your journey
Make it what you will but it will still glow
Everything in its place exactly where it should be

Watching you grow, watching how you do it all
Soaking up the sadness when you fall
Giving you endless energy when you need it so
Holding you gently just as you have held it

It has found its place
It has touched the world in an endless way
It has made this world turn
Now its time
For you to find your place

Everything in its place
Everything that has mattered in this wide open space.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
