Father by Steve Cavazos

Father I hate you

You cause me so much pain

And you refuse to take it away

I’ve always had your back even when you stabbed me in mine

You told me you had quit, that you’d be a good dad now

Then, who, what, when, how?

Sometime I wish that you would shut up and die

And that my brothers would have never seen me cry

I’m not supposed to be weak I’m supposed to protect them

Noah saw me cry and now thinks I can’t protect him

I think about killing you I really do

But all that would do is make me just as weak as you

The needle will make my wish come true

Unless you control the needle before it controls you

Father, if only you knew how much I need you
