Father Why

Father Why

Father why do you crucify me with your touch

Father why do you crucify me with a look

Father what have I done to deserve this

Tell me why do I deserve to be crucified

Did I do something to displease you

Have I forsaken you

Have I not followed your every wish

Father why have you chosen me

Father when will you let me be

Father all I want to be is me

I obey your every wish

You turn away from me when I disobey

Is that your way of saying I hate you

Is your touch your way of telling me you love me

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
