    Footprints in Time

    Walking on white

     Powder soft sand

    My footprints

    Left impressions,

    Little signs

     Indicating my presence

    In the recent past.

    As I returned later,

    I paused

     And struggled to find

    Signs of any footprints

    As the incoming waves

    Advanced,

    Slowly, but surely

    Erasing the memory

    Of my presence…

    Walking through life

    What impressions do I leave?

    What memories

    Shall last longest?

    Time moves on

    Progressing inevitably

    Towards that day when,

     My last footprint

    Shall disappear

    Only for more footprints

    To take my place.

A very well written piece, quite philosophical in nature. This reflects the theme from the title to the last sentence with it's smooth flow and wonderful images.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
