    Gold Rush

    Gold Rush- By Bella 2/10/2009

    You were
    so different
    California
    of long ago
    back when
    People would say
    Come to
    Califonia
    She's laid back
    and slow
    now you're lucky
    to avoid gettin
    run over
    by the Escalades
    and Hummers
    Road kill
    a vulcher's supper
    Leaving you
    by the wayside
    Dude' now
    ain't that
    nuttin but
    a bummer
    Not much
    else for you to do
    just lay low
    Not much else
    to say

    Back then
    You could always
    find a friend
    even if only
    for a day
    But they were
    always runnin
    Always
    running away
    what can you say
    to a bunch of
    street orphan's
    Trying too hard
    to find their way
    California
    You've seen
    better days

    Oh California
    No one cared
    to keep track
    of you
    California
    no one had
    your back
    Through the years
    You turned a lot of
    desperate carpetbaggers
    into millionaires

    California you
    should've closed
    those pearly gates
    Shoulda succeeded
    As a state
    before freeways
    spidered through
    your veins
    pumping more
    water through
    your desert heart
    than you could sustain
    till you busted
    at the seams
    California
    your beauty
    fulfilled so many
    dreams

    California you asked
    for so little
    you gave so much
    If not for the
    gold rush
    You'd never
    been bought
    and sold
    California
    oh how young
    you'd still be
    the Ca-li-for-ni-a
    of old
