    Grandma

I went to visit Grandma in the place that she calls home. I walk down the hall to find her room, where she's sitting all alone. I sit the flowers down and a smile appears on her face. I lean over and kiss her cheek and she thanks me with a warm embrace. I adopted her as my "Grandma" because her family doesn't care. They have no time to visit or even a few minutes to spare. I hold Grandma's hand and we sit and talk awhile. She talks about her kids and her new great grandchild. Grandma smiles as she shows me the picture of the little baby girl. I see she has Grandma's eyes and lots of pretty curls. Grandma puts the picture down and closes her tired eyes. She says she's gonna lay down now and we say our goodbyes. I didn't know it then but that would be the last goodbye for me. Grandma passed away that night you see. Grandma's family finally came to see her but it was a lil' too late for that. Grandma had written a note that was to be read after she passed. It read "You never came to see me when I was alive and here all alone. So don't bother coming to see me now when I'm dead and already gone." I went to visit Grandma in the new place she calls home. I laid the flowers on her grave and I know she's not all alone. Grandma and I still talk and I can still see that smile. When was the last time you visited your Grandma? Has it been that long awhile?
