Poem Commentary

This poem was the first I've ever written just off of the top of my head.  I don't know how well it was written because I haven't re-read a bit of it or changed a thing.  I want to know what you guys think before I start to criticize myself on everything.  So send feedback and rate please.  I want to see how this one turns out.

Holding on but Letting Go

You don't understand how you've changed my life
You couldn't imagine how just your eyes light up the sky
Twilight all around, the beginning and an end
Too bad the days gone, but the next one's begun.

I want to hold you like I don't ever need to let go
Kiss you as if that could possibly show
The feeling in my heart, and in my soul
I wish you could understand, my heart's within your hand

Don't drop it, please I've been hurt enough
Don't you see the bruises, the tears and the cuts?
Yeah that's what I know, all I've ever felt.
Please promise you'll love me, one day you might see.

The love in my soul, it's all that I know
I refuse to deny it, I won't push you though.
You mean more to me than air, I won't let you down
Just know that I want you, Hell hath no fury now.

'Cause if the day should come, when you choose to leave
My tears won't ever stop, my anger never relieved.
I'll catch the next seat to Lucifer, and kick his ass for what he's done
I know that you may choose without his influence, but he's still wrong

A baby, so small, so sheltered and blind
Could see where I want you, here at my side.
If you want to walk out, the door will be open
But that doesn't mean that I won't be broken

An endless love is yours for the taking if you wish
Just ask, I will grant it with but a single kiss.
Don't fight the truth, I know that you love me back
Don't be afraid, I won't hurt you, you have to be brave.

Now that I know how you feel for me too
It's too hard to imagine any world or life without you.
The day I don't love you, that's the day time will stop
That's the day that our lies turn truth before our eyes.

I can't even make a single thought other than this:
When you're gone, so am I, when you're here, life is bliss.
My eyes were made to get lost within yours
Every single fiber of me, each belong to you, you'll see.

Well written and expressed. Sounds very much like the beginning stages of falling in love.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
