I am black

I am black

I'm Black
Yes I'm Black
Does That Scare You
Or Does that Fill You Inside With Pride
For Those Of You Who Feel Fear
Why
Because the media has portrayed myself
As a criminal unless I'm muslim then I'm a terrorist bomber
But what bout what you're people done to me
I ain't talking bout 200 yrs ago slavery
I'm talking bout today as I stand
Trapping me in broken buildings
Destroying born hope
But I have big dreams
So I'm trying to regain hoping
But maybe I'm only dreaming
My role models are only ghetto superstars
That ain't even reached the stars
But I reach for the stars
Because that the message that is passed down to me by the stars
So I must break stereotypes
But I'm stereotyped to fail
Fail I won't do, but then again it is said I will say that
My ignorance is un-blissful
To be educated I itch
Not a side effect of crack
but you can see the cracks in my smile
But all the while you watch the news and think less of me
For all those are proud of me
Put your fist in the air an cheer
Another black entertainer stands on stage
Doing something positive in this day an age
On the flipside
Breaking down no new barriers
Because I have no wreaking balls
So I use syllables to free minds
Or purchase books
But keep it a secret
Because I don't want people in the hood back home
To know that I'mma gangster that's smart as well
And say thing other then
Umm ahh, skeen you know what I mean
And you know what I mean to well
Sick and tired of living in hell
So I'm trying to raise self
But I'm all by myself
With no help
Wheres my elders
Speaking words of wisdom
Because to me they are missing
Proud to be who I am
Who I am I'm proud to be
And it's plain to see
I'm Black
Yes I'm Black
I hope this poem change your point of view
That what I was meant to do with poetry
The poet is called influenced and that is me.

you're going to make it girl. You've over come stereotypes and predjudice. You are you. God created you to acheive and He will help you attain your goal. Be proud. Yes be proud that you are black.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
