    I Can’t Tell You Who I Am

If I told you that I first attempted suicide at age six, would you believe me?  Could you?  If I said it was one of my many, would you believe me?  Would you care?

If I said I now know I am sick, would you listen?  Would you help?

To have to live with such despair is a punishment I wish on no one.  To live in constant pain is cruel and above all sad for those who have such a sentence.

Why do some of us care so much and others don’t?

Why do some of us believe so much while others don’t?

    Why can’t I say who I am?

Why can I tell you, who I am so that you can help me?

Why must I continue with this sentence that has no peace?

Why has this sentence been given to me?  Why?

What have I done to deserve such a life?  A life full of pain, guilt and suffering.

     Why can’t I tell you who I am?…

I don't know you and you don't know me, but... your words here made me cry... Your words here have been my whole life. I just wanted to say, thank you. I don't know why, but thank you. you're not alone.

Wow, thank you for sharing! It is so comforting to know one is not alone.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
