    I Didn't Know

    I sit looking at you
    Listening to you speak
    Thoughts flow freely
    Conversation vivid

    I didn't know

    I look over and see
I smile, with you in the back
    The pure vision
    Her

    I didn't know

    I turn back to you
    Jumping back into converstation
    The smile on your face
    Just plain happiness

    I didn't know

"Thank you". The waiter puts our plates
    in front of us.

    I sit looking at you
    Watching you eat
    Thoughts flowing freely
    Conversation lost in food

    I didn't know
    I didn't know

    We are home now
She is in Her room watching TV
    We are starting Deja Vu
Smoking a cigarette as the movie begins

    I didn't know
    I didn't

    I am tired
    I lay down
    I hear you and her
In her room, playing and laughing vividly

    I didn't know

    I wake up
    Go to the bathroom
    I see you two asleep
    It's early

    I didn't know

    I try to wake you
    It's cold, your cold
"Babe, go lay in the room"
    I try to wake you

    I didn't know
Last night would be our last
    To see you
    I didn't know

The memory of that last night
    I didn't know would be a memory
    I would remember only with
    Your daughter

Very moving...I couldn't imagine the thought, but it happens, and that's why they say cherish every minute and second with the ones you love so you don't know if it'll be the last. But you, you were able to put the emotions in words and make people wonder "what didn't you know" was it abuse, was it cheating, what?...the anticipation you created and than finding out the answer was like...WOW...didn't that think that was coming. I really liked it.

i don't know if i could say anything that hasn't already been said. i felt the pure happiness and then the painful loss in each word. sorry for your loss

Wow! I am touched. As a widower, who lost not just a wife; but a best friend a a part of my soul I feel this poem in the memory of my own experience. Tank you for sharing.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
