I had a friend named Toni

    I had a friend

    Years ago,

    Who broke my heart

    And let me go.

    I tried to

    Make her understand,

    But she refused

    And here I stand.

    She didn’t want me

    With a man,

    I broke her heart

    I didn’t understand.

    We went everwhere

    Her and I,

    Our children too

She said I left for a guy.

    She was so mean

    We’re friends no more,

    To pay me back

    She closed her door.

    I seen her

    Passing in a car,

    I waved to her

    But she was too far.

    I had to learn

    To let go,

    Daily crying

    I loved her so.

    Years went by

    And prayed did I,

    Daily for her

    And I would cry.

    Then one day

    She called me,

    She was dying

    And I was free.

    Free to see her

    And hug her tight,

    My dear friend

    Died that night. (2004)

    She was sorry

    For being so mean,

    She missed me

    All now is forgiven.

    All forgiven

    All is right,

    Up with Jesus

    In His heavenly light.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
