I Hear America Dying

I Hear America Dying

I hear America dying the varied sorrows I hear
Those of storms, each one brewing near
The mother dying as cancer eats her life away
The father dying as he lives his life unfaithfully
The son dying as he sleeps with everybody
The daughter dying as she drinks her life away
I am dying as the pain from the past comes to haunt me everyday
Each dying slowly but surely
The day that will turn fast into night
Dying with open mouths
Screaming their pleas for another chance.

It's a very beautiful poem full of humanism and emotions.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
