I Know What To Do

Poem Commentary

All children think they know better than their parents.  This poem is a cycle of life. Parents trying to teach through their experiences, to their children, to keep them from making the same mistakes they may have made or know is wrong. The ending I believe is always the same, we always understand our parents love in trying, after we have done it our way.

I Know What To Do

"Mom, I know what to do.
When I need your help, THEN you can see me through."

My heart ached and cried, "Momma,
Why didn't I see, all the hurt and pain it took to raise me?"
What you went through, to see me through,
To love and protect, your heart was always true.
  I did not know.

But, now I've grown and see the light.
How you've tried to care for me in the middle of my nights.
Your love endures, through right and wrong.
You were always there to keep me warned.
I now know, I love you so.

My Son says, "Mom, I know what to do,
if I need your help, THEN you can see me through."

Now my Son's heart cries, "Momma,
Why didn't I see, all the hurt and pain it took to raise me?"
How could I have known, what you went through,
to love and protect to guide me true.

But, now I've grown and see the light,
How you've tried to care for me in the middle of my nights.
Your love endures, through right and wrong.
You were always there to keep me warned.
I know now. I love you so.

Then his Son says, "Daddy, I know what to do.
When I need your help, THEN you can see me through."

But, I know someday, he'll hear these words,
"Daddy, Why didn't I see, all the hurt and pain it took to raise me.
All the love you shared and passed my way.

He does not know now,
            but, he'll know soon.
                         He will love you so.

Believe me when she grows up she will know by the looking back in life. We all evaluate our life at some point. That is when we relize who tried to help us to make good decisions

To young to be so sure of themselves, too late wise......all you can ever do is love them sweet and compassioanete

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
