If Only I made You Happy

If only I made you happy...
the world would be a perfect place and you'd love me.
We'd slowly rock away, withered bodies rhythmically swaying.
Flesh in decaying flesh we'd waste away.
Dreaming of days long passed when children we were and the light in our eyes, as we stared deep into the other's, was more than enough to illuminate any night.
We'd search each others SOULS, exploring...and finding ourselves held fast by the grip of youth in an embrace that seemed to last a lifetime.
    Oh, those days...
When our bodies would become one and the cycle of life continued...
When dreams were dreams of hope and expectation and determination...
    When...
with our creations we'd decide our values and plant THEM like seeds and water THOSE with love and rejoice watching them grow...
Pulling weeds when necessary but ultimately allowing...allowing nature and allowing the process, allowing ourselves to trust.
Familiar now, this concept of trust; as we've long left our separate worlds and lived together in one unknown.
Darkness...except that of the light in our eyes,
but that FIERCE with the blaze of passion and faith.
    Slowly but surely we made this place ours;
built a house and grew a garden,
drew out a clothesline and hung sheets there to dry.
We paved roads stretching for the universe and set our creations on their path with their own light now to guide them.
We feel good as they walk away, knowing we taught them to find their own coarse.
Of course, we keep the light on so if ever they get lost and need a beacon to mark home, shining brightly, they'd see us.
Alone again but never lonely...sitting on our wicker-rocking chairs...smiling, watching the sun finally set.
If only I made you happy...we'd have such an ending.
But you're cold and distant and scared of the unknown.
In your sorrow you sabotage and neglect and...
    Maybe its not ME!...
Not me destined for you and not you ready for me...
Not till you see the light inside yourSELF...and find the happiness WITHIN.

I believe and admire poems from the heart and of where we have been and where we are going now from all the pain-lies and disappointments. We survive-We live and we are strong. Author Aleja Bennett http://alejabennett.net84.net http://myspace.com/authoralejabennett

Beautiful work, I get the feeling that you are a soulfull lover. Very complete in words and feelings. I love it.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
