In the middle of the nights

While sleeping soundly in my bed, all snug and tucked just right..
Im woken by the awful words of mom and daddy's fight.
As I heard those hateful names they would shout then slam the door,
I prayed for Bub to stay asleep and my ears to hear no more.
But the prayers I made weren't answered cause my Bub is now awake.
I would hold his ears instead, for as long as it may take.
The longing for some peace, and the begging for no more
just never seemed to happen as we watched her hit the floor.
We lay and cry together. Growing hatred for this grief.
Why won't mom just listen and give daddy all her keys?
She says she loves and cares for us, but I'm lost on what to think.
She says this with a smile as she chases with a drink.
The torture we both suffered and all those tears we cried,
Can never be compared to the pain we felt inside.

An emotional outpouring reflecting the anguish experienced by many children trapped in the alchoholics world. Nicely done/

Great work! The emotions and pain you describe are tangible. As with all good poetry, you have moved the reader to feel what you felt. Well done.

What a very great and humbling poem. I can relate- broken home. but time heals all. Be strong.

Very sad and beautiful. Good honest poetry..

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
