    Life

    This is the beginning
I could be whatever I want
This is when light is born
    Time begins happily
A baby's life is full of joy
Pain has not yet been found
The sparkle in their eyes, my parents
    Life is good
    A clean slate

    This is the middle
    Things have been decided
Light is high in the sky
    Time is growing older
Adolescence is fun, while it lasts
Pain is new and sharp as a knife
The sparkle in one set of eyes is dying
    Life is strange
    Writing again

    This is the end
    Fate has chosen
    Light is dying
    Time is long gone
    Old age had set in
    Pain is dull and throbbing
The sparkle is gone, as are the eyes
    Life is absent
    The story ends

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
