Poem Commentary

Old poems can sometimes come back to life.

Life.

Why, after all this time, am I still thinking of you?

How come no matter how hard I try, there’s nothing left for me to do?

We had a friendship that wasn’t meant to last,

You changed and came onto me much too fast.

All I had wanted was a friend,

But once the feelings came, it was too hard to pretend.

I gave you my innocence; you gave me your praise.

I wanted to say the 3 words that I believed true in my heart.

Every time I got the chance, I never knew how to start.

I soon came to find your love was purely a phase.

I wanted you to be my one and only,

All you did was make me feel lonely.

I was nothing more than another girl waiting in line,

You moved on, I had gotten my time.

The moments we shared aren’t worth looking back on.

I wish I could say all my feelings have gone.

Even after all the hurt and all the tears,

I know I’ll still think of you after many years.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
