Locked Away

Sometimes I feel like a locked book.
You think you know me, but all you see is the cover.
The rest lies within.
Pages of happy times and sadness and worries.
Everything i've been through that no one ever knew.

I hold the key to that locked book.
And I am too scared to open it, and reveal myself to you.
Scared of what you will think,
Scared of what you will say.
Scared to shock you by what lies within these wall that I built around myself.

So I wont give away the key.
I'll keep these pages scrawled with secrets, locked in.
I'll continue feeling like a locked book.
Continue hiding myself between the covers,
And bearing the weight of the truth that i'm am to afraid to share ...

The angst of journalism, to write when you are your only audience.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
