    LOVE FOUND ME

I wasn't looking for love but it somehow found me,
I dont't know how it got over that wall I put up around me.
I didn't argue or fight it, I just let it in,
I took down the wall and let love win.
I figured it was time, since it had been so long ago,
I had to give it a chance it was the only way I would ever know.
So as time went on the love continued to grow deep,
With love comes hurt so I decided it wasn't mine to keep.
So as i pushed it away and started rebuilding my wall,
I had to prepare myself for that familiar fall.
Maybe I wasn't meant to give it or receive it,
The more he would say it, the less I would believe it.
Because love is just a word and anyone can use it,
Way too often people tend to abuse it.
Love has to be proved through honesty and trust,
Not to mention through actions, which is a must.
So if love should come looking for me again,
I will hide behind that wall and not let it in.
If I would have known now what I should have known from the start,
Then I wouldn't be sitting here with a broken heart.

(dedicated to the last guy i fell for)

A very nice rendition of the age old theme and several good phrasings with rhyme along the way... I think you slipped on the voice's resolve about what it takes to love and be loved... To state that the voice believes love is about honesty and trust, along with actions, then state that it is hiding and will not let love in again, well... This is a bit of a dichotomy of reasoning for me... But, then again... Who am I to question another's way of looking at things...??? Still, a very good write...

sometimes we have to tear down that wall to let ourselves out especially when that wall is too high

    Lovely, sneaking poem, loved it

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
