Poem Commentary

This is my daughter's story.  I wrote it to her with hopes she will never let another do this to her again..Love Mom

LOVE.... UNFORGOTTEN...UNFORGIVEN

Today you called me Sweetheart
And vowed your love was real.
You told about the years we've lost
And wounds that never healed.

And then you made a promise
To always be my friend
And never close the door again,
Our love would never end.

The years of loss began to fade,
We talked for hours each day
About the plans we once had made
And lives that went astray.

You called our wedding off that day
So many years ago.
You never told me what I'd done,
Your thoughts I did not know.

And even though I found a love
It never took your place.
I yearned for you each day I lived
And longed to see your face.

And in the years we've been apart,
The children filled the space.
A love that blossomed, burst and grew
you canceled in such haste.

I've thought of you each day I've lived,
My children have your name.
And when I heard your voice again,
It was at first a game.

But you were sure your love sustained
The years we'd spent apart,
And I began to open up
And give again my heart.

And when the letter came today,
Much like one years ago.
You could not write again you said,
Our love would have to go.

You had another plan by then
You said you loved your wife.
A trip together turned the tide
And new loved changed your life.

How quick you turned in distant past,
But nothing changed today.
You are the same uncaring fool
That dangles love your way.

You wanted me to suit your needs
And when your tank was filled,
You took the easy way my friend,
You just don't fit the bill.

A favor has been done today,
The one you gave to me.
I've grieved for years for our love lost,
A love that could not be.

But now I see you as your are,
A man without a will.
The man I dreamed about those years
Your shoes could never fill.

Be true to what you're doing now
For I will never be,
A place for you to flaunt your charms,
Because today I'm Free.

Awesome and powerful. I can totally relate to the story. I would call it sad but I am actually glad the truth came out before things got too out of hand. Now she really is free.

Thank you. No one want s to see their child go through bad places. I would like to say that she has regained her power and is now happy and is building a new life. Saddly she feels very alone and is depressed. Her life has been hard. Her first child died of SIDS. That 17 marrage was less than ideal. They had three more children but her husband became an alcoholic and was killed, as a passenger, in a car crash 6 years ago. When her old love came back into her life she thought this was her second chance. Two many crashes in a life changes one. I wish I could see happy outgoing daughter once again. I know she is still there.

Thank you Tierra. A mother feels so helpless when you watch the heartbreak of a child. When this young man canceled the wedding almost 20 years ago, we took her to Hawaii. But that was not really a cure. 20 yrs later this jack ass did it again and that cured her for sure. I just hope she finds the right person some day. That's mother love, but we can't do it for them. We can only pray. Love Jan

This is an amazing, wonderful poem. Oh! The man is a creep! If someone did this to one of my daughters I would be heart sick...as I'm sure you were, dear. You are a first rate poet. Thank you for posting this. I'm adding it to my favorites.

Thank you lolee. He was a heartless person who will get his reward one day. He is not worth one hair on her head. Why do you have a gorilla as you picture? I'm sure you are beautiful. I can tell that by your writing?

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
