    Love

I was not looking when you came to me
For two to be one I could not see

    Like water in a creek
running so clean & so deep
    your love came to me
    No longer to seek

    You filled up my heart
    my soul and my life
    This was a new start
    forgetting the strife

    You were my life
    my meaning to be
    To be your wife
    just you and me

    I gave all I could
    be it right or wrong
    I asked if you would
    help me be strong

    But we drew apart
as a seed from its skin
As a horse with no cart
    and no one would win

    I soon became ill
    and so much afraid
    True my love for you
    yet from me you strayed

    I know I've been wrong
    mistakes I've made
But I need to be strong
so my Life I can save

    Be it wrong or right
    I love you my friend
    and I pray every night
    We'll be together again

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
