Poem Commentary

This my first poem to submit to the group and after reading some of the others, I hope mine improve. There's some really good stuff on these pages! Thanks, Ladyquill

Love's Yearning

The night was cold,
But, I was warm in your embrace,
And as we lay there face to face,
I trembled that I was old.

In my minds eye,
I met you young, and stars above
Twinkled and hung over one such love.
The heavens, on high, would sigh.

I've searched my heart,
And in my soul a yearning has come
Of who you are and where you're from,
And that we'll never part.

Alas, that I'm a sham,
And we shan't meet until I chance
To give true love a fleeting glance
And offer who I am.

But, the night is cold,
And I tremble that I'm old.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
