    Loving Needs

when does wanting you become needing you
    it's when my heart cries
profusely, as the tears from my eyes
try to wash away the sorrow
tears, warm and gentle as they fall
caressing my face as once you did
    with loving hands

when does wanting you turn to needing you
    it's when my fingers tremble
at the thought of touching you

    it's at my soul's unrest
anxious with the anticipation of you
    again holding me close
within the boundaries of your love

so now, when does the wanting of you
change to the needing of you
it's when regardless of countless goodbyes
i continue to love you more
than the many splendid times before

loving you with the freshness of a brand new love
hearing the soft sweet words of persuasion
that you gently whisper in my ears

that's when my wanting to love you
becomes my undying need to love you
wanting you to need to love me, too

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
