My Son's Graduation Day
Where do I begin my son
to tell you what you mean to me?
how proud I am of the man you've become
and the one you will someday be.
When you were just a toddler
a diaper you never left on
you'd rip it off while playing outside
and then running, you were gone
I remember when you were little
riding your bike and climbing trees
it seems like not a day would go by
that your pants didn't have holes in their knees
I remember how you'd stand with your sword
and yell " by the power of grayskull"
you were He-Man for a day
your playtime was never dull.
Then music began to blast from your room
the bass pounding the beat of the drum
then girls and cars soon followed
oh lord the gray hairs started to come
I see your kind heart and thoughtul ways
you treat others as if they were your brother
in your life I hope you will remember that
we have to be kind to one another
And now your future lies ahead of you
the whole world is at your feet
I hope you always choose wisely
and never admit defeat
But should you find a rough road ahead
I hope you will always remember this
that as your mom I will make it better
sometimes with just a kiss
Your adventures in life are just beginning
as you'll find out when you go into the Navy
I hope your path in life stays straight
and never gets too wavy.
Know this my son, as I'm sure you do
that your Dad and I will always love you
if you should ever need anything
we could always come live with you too.
