My Thing On the Side

My Thing On the Side

I sit under shady trees
And dream dreams that haven’t been dreamt yet
I think of you
This love that has no limits
I can’t imagine life without you
I inscribed your name on my right arm
Your timeless charm captures me
Enfolds me in a blanket of metaphoric ecstasy
And you let me have my way with you
The affair that my man is okay with
Cause you come around
Time after time
Make my love come down
Impregnate me with encouragement
To climb lyrical mountains
While handicapped
Dyslexic
That monkey on my back
But baby you make everything okay
Every thought expressed
With no distress
God’s sinless gift to me
I love you
Punch lines and soulful cries
Harmonies and melodic chants
Iambic pentameters
You hold my hand
And allow me the expression
Of a woman far more eloquent than I
You soothe me
In the middle of the night you awake me
From the soundest of sleep
With words
Your canter lures my everyday thinking
Into verses and phrases
Frustrated cause I can’t find a pen
To tap into this fountain within
Overflowing with passion
Not an everyday fashion
You just stop by every now an then
Upon the thought of you
