Oh, Nautilus

Oh, Nautilus

Oh, Nautilus,

Blow me out to sea,

Where therein lies the mighty sea king,

And in his ocean’s abundance doth there dwell,

Many fair treasures to fare thee well.

Oh, Nautilus,

Blow me out to sea,

Where I might find an orange shell for ye,

Or gems and pearls for thine palace to adorn,

I’ll give it all to thee – and much more.

Oh, Nautilus,

Please take me away,

Whither I may re-enter past days,

Far enough to find my dead lover’s nestle,

Her decorticate body’s vessel.

Oh, Nautilus,

Why am I alone?

Why has love for my lover since grown?

Though she sleeps with angels in another world,

Might I find her sweet body unfurled?

Oh, Nautilus,

Let me stay a while,

Amongst the winds and mists of Sea fire,

And if I return – may my love cherish more,

The land and the hills above thine shores.

Oh, Nautilus,

Blow me out to sea,

Where therein lies thine mighty sea king.

Oh, Nautilus,

If ye only knew…

I pictured you staring off into the horizon while reading this. The repetition in each stanza amplifies the pain you describe. It resonates well with me. Nice write mate. Let's be friends.

wow...how powerful...I am truly moved, and trust me, I don't get moved often. What a poigniant triumph in the world of poetry...you are truly a soul that has much to say! I hope you win with this. It is awesome and I am babbling because I am so moved. It is truly hard to find any fault in this...the rhythm is wonderful, the choice of words is brilliant...and you are a fantastic writer who took me on a spiritual journey! This is first one that I add to favorites! 10+dude, wish we could go higher.

Hi DML7788, Thanks for the comment you posted on my poem. I find "Oh Nautilus" a masterpiece. Voila, an up and coming Berryman! Re-read my poem and see if the meaning I provide below makes any sense: Traditionally "Agoo" is used to get the attention of an audience usually gathered in the chief's/king's palace. My poem simply talks about an individual whose death is being welcomed by the ancestors."He has finally come home", followed by the belief that when one dies his ghost hovers around for

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
