Potholes

Potholes

You try to go through as fast as possible,
Without getting hurt or destroyed,
You try to make the best of it,
But somehow you always seem to get soiled,
You dodge and jump to escape its blow,
And missed this one by an inch,

So scared you were to have fallen in it,
that you didn't let that past fear go,
Not looking ahead to see the other,
the one so deep.

Still holding to your fear of past,
unexpectedly you took the blast,
So shocked were you that you stood stuck there.

The ones you thought were there for you,
had left you with no trace,
you stood there a little longer, looking at how far you've come,
and thought to yourself,
that to stand here would be very dumb.

Then with a sudden burst of strength,
you rise out to once again,
go onward into the race,
but this time, leaving the past erased,
only looking towards your goal,
and readying yourself, for another pothole.

Thank you very much.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
