Putting Death On Hold

Putting Death On Hold

That evening she found out her husband died,
she didn’t worry and she didn’t cry,
there wasn’t a single tear in her eye,
she ignored the phone when it rang,
and she blocked out the songs they sang,
she felt neither amused, confused nor irritated that night,
she wasn’t going to do anything tonight,
so she turned off the light
that was on a rickety bamboo table
beside her bed,
nothing was going to remind her
that her husband of over fifty years was dead,
she had a wide old-fashioned bed,
with a snowy white bed spread,
her wardrobe chest was black,
and the dresser table lacquered in gold,
that night she just laid on her back,
putting death on hold.

I can really relate my husband has a rare form of cancer and it has taken pretty much everything but his soul at this point and I have watched him do nothing but suffer and so I can completely understand the feeling of being basically numb from the pain...

Gee my heart goes out to your family Bless you TyMartin

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
