"Down"

Okay man,

I see that you'er down and I apologize for pushing your pride around.

But you've got to understand where I'm coming from you see; being a woman and the main provider is just too much  for me.

I can't take it; it 's not the way it should be. I expect you to take care of me.

Oh don't get me wrong, I can see that we're living in today's society.

The way I was raised and the way I think it should be, are only my belief system inside of me,

and I juggle with this struggle entirely.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
