"EVERYBODY Gets Depressed" (or "Oh, I get that too")

If you get up out of bed
and are immobilized with dread

If you hate yourself so much
you wish that you were dead

If it requires maximum effort
just to get dressed

If you don't grab a brush
And your hair is a mess

If you can't make anything to eat
Because nothing sounds good

If you can't make those phone calls
Even though you know you should

If you're overwhelmed by your to-do list
You can't do even one thing

If all this takes up the whole day and night
Then I guess you ARE depressed
I guess you are right

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
