Poem Commentary

YEAH YEAH  GO AHEAD  Rip me a new one

Rented Gods and A Dashboard Jesus (CHILD PLAYING GOD)

Rented Gods & A Dashboard Jesus (child playing god)

Sands blowing across the desert skies
Like angels weeping you hear them cry
Crying for their freedom, crying for their souls
Begging for his mercy and for the devil to let them go

I hear them dieing...oh’ what can I do
Cowards in hiding still in charge of you

You read the words
You live in his power and his glory
Sometimes it's absurd
You want to be a hero in a holy story

You're a rented god and a dashboard jesus
Just like a child playing GOD

You preach the verse
But yet you covet your neighbor’s daughter
Stricken by a demons curse
Beast of burden brings a lamb to its slaughter

You live by the golden rule
Thou’ shall believe in thy self
You’re the captain on a ship of fools
Too proud to send for help

You're a rented god and a dashboard jesus
Just like a child playing GOD

Here, take a seat
On the menu “chicken and wine”
Go ahead and rest your feet
At the last supper of our time

You're a rented god and a dashboard jesus
Just like a child playing GOD

You squeeze the cross
And you ask the heavens why
You squeeze the trigger
And blame jesus right before you die

You're a rented god and a dashboard jesus
Just like a child playing GOD

The sand begins to settle across the desert skies
Mere mortals not knowing the reasons why
Crying from our hearts, crying out from shame
Begging for his mercy thru Jehovah's name

I hear them laughing...oh’ what does it mean
From a child playing god, to a forgotten king

Wow. I knew I would like this one, and I do. My daughter would like it as well...I'll share it with her. She just bought a dashboard Jesus for one of her teachers. I think you could have put your commentary as your last line. It made me grin.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
