Shiny Car

That’s quite a shiny car you got there

  but who shines it?

It’s my car! its my precious, my pride!

Its quite… nice… living the dream I see

all those details, those stars, those stripes.

looks quite expensive, nice paint job - screams power, but how does it drive?

how much did it cost?

your precious, your pride and joy?

well it didn’t cost me much at all.

it was a gift, an incentive, a bonus from my boss.

but still, it must be quite expensive to maintain

how much does it cost?

the wax, the mileage, the gas,

and how much is the oil?

- well, fairly inexpensive, the oil was paid for with bullets and lives.

and I bought it tax free, on foreign soil.

the only thing it cost me was my time.

at first I tried to bargain, they denied.

Those damn dealers,

wouldn't just give me, what was mine.

So I showed them who's boss, Slammed my hand on their desk.

their poor kid started crying. how could they resist?

Those kids dying, a small price to pay.

To have whats mine, my precious, my pride.

If I didn't get the car that day, I wouldn't have my piece of mind.

I wouldn't have a shiny car to maintain or be shined.

it gives me power. It keeps me safe,

and I hope to give it to my son one day.

Sure its a shiny car, it keeps you safe.

but how does it drive and who shines it?

well it depends on the driver,

but when something looks this shiny, why let anyone drive it?

Sure you can maintain it and you do a good job at it. But where does it take you? and where are you going?

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
