    SPECIAL FRIEND

    SPECIAL FRIEND

It has been just about a year since I last saw his face.
My worry was…what would take his place.
The ache that was in my heart is now but a trace
Of all the things I left behind and have no desire to replace.

The burden of the sins I carried were like chains that bound me,
Until a special friend listened and helped me break them free.
All I had ever been seemed like all I would ever be,
But my burden was lifted and for the first time I could see.

See that the things in the past weren’t allowed here anymore,
That the Lord has forgiven me…has opened up a new door.
A door to a life much more different than the life I had before.
My friend helped me to trust, to spread my wings and soar.

Fly away from the struggles and the demons I had to fight,
Stay close to special friends and family; hold them with all my might.
To come out of the darkness and stand tall in the light,
Surround myself with loved ones; always keep the Lord in my sight.

The Lord has brought me through times when I thought he wasn’t there,
Has kept me strong when there wasn’t much more I thought I could bear.
He has dressed me in peace when shame was all I could wear,
Has brought friends into my life for experiences we could share.

This past year has led me down a new path; a new road everyday,
A place where smiles are more and the burdens are lighter today.
My life is fuller now with that special friend that came my way,
Gone are the tears and fears; love and laughter are here to stay.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
