    Stepdad

Tell me that you're sorry that you made my mommy bleed
Don't blame it on your childhood; don't blame it on the speed

Say sorry that I laid awake with nothing but my prayers
to help protect my mommy as she tumbled down the stairs

Apologize for lying when you said the crashing noise
was just the sound of you and mommy playing with my toys

And tell me that you didn't mean for mommy's ribs to crack
And say that if you could you'd take the kicks and punches back

Say sorry that I watched you in the doorway as you stood
and choked my mommy as you yanked her favorite jacket's hood

Just tell me that you're sorry for each bruise and every stitch
And I'll tell you to Fuck Yourself, you worthless little bitch

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
