    Tea For One

I'll wait no more for romance.
    It isn't worth the price.
I'll sell my soul for no one,
    despite the world's advice.

And you may think me lonely,
as I sit at tea for one,
but I wrap myself in satin,
and I cater now to none.

    Sometimes I'll take a lover,
should I feel the need for spice,
but I'll give my key to no one
    for Love rolls loaded dice.

And when the world winds down at last
and I decide that will suffice,
    I'll sleep in peaceful silence,
    my heart encased in ice....

Felt that way before, but happily grew out of it. Hope you did too. Midnight Poet

This is a wonderful poem, unabashedly direct, uses both rhyme and rhythm cleverly, and captures a quite elusive theme so masterfully. Admirable!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
