    The Ideal Man

When I think of this man, you just can't understand
the extreme of the flow of emotion
I can't begin to explain how to measure joy over pain
    Honestly, I haven't a notion.
What I know of this man I inform you first hand
he' a man of his word and great passion.
He's a man of his means at times not what he seems
you might say he's even old fashioned.
He's told me of war and how to even the score
of the bad hands that life sometimes deals
He tells of the pains as he points out the gains
yet he tells just what he feels
He taught me to fight when I thought it right
he taught me to live life and wonder
When he's proud of me he tells me you see
but when angry he sounds just like thunder
It's always so nice when he gives advice
he knows it's never a bother.
    Because there's nothing worth more
than to walk through that door
to sit down and talk to your father.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
