The Overthinker

Poem Commentary

This is a song, obviously. I have recorded it with a friend of mine, and if you'd like, you can check it out at: www.bandbase.com/amongstthewaves

The Overthinker

Down the railway, past the tension

A city breathes, without comprehension

It doesn’t matter if anyone remembers

Cause we are both pouring water on the embers

Just realizing it gives me the shivers

Being forced into a thousand of rivers

With only a mere raft and a broken oar

My detained rage led out by a roar

I’m on standby for a while

But don’t you give me that fake smile

And by the given circumstance

I am still under maintenance

But before I release my inner killer whale

I have more opinions I wish to unveil

It’s not as complicated as playing a game of chess

Just walk with me, to the depths of happiness.

Is this the first time, or is it the fifth?

Is it my red pants you just can’t cope with?

We are both people who like to linger

My Irrational Attention to you, the Overthinker

I’m on standby for a while

But just don’t give me that fake smile

And by the given circumstance

I am still under maintenance

I’m frozen, feel my flame

I’m heated, I feel the same

I’m petrified, feel my touch

Some might say I feel too much

You’re on standby for a while

But just don’t give me that fake smile

And by the given circumstance

You are still under maintenance

We are hanging by a thin thread

Forget to remember, remember to forget

All there is left to do is to stand in line

I really hope there comes a time.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
