    Vertigo

Sorry I got my love all over you
    What a mess
    Must have been dizzy
    From watching you spin
    And wax and wane
    And run
    Knowing my cup was full
    And I was wobbly
    ‘twas all I could do
    To stand up straight
    In your presence

    Look at you now
    Rubbing furiously
    To remove every trace
    Before the inevitable
    Indelible stain sets

    I’m a child again
    Bruised and broken
    Awash in tears
    Ashamed of my ineptitude
    How foolish of me
    To have gotten so close
    How clumsy indeed

    I pace the floor
With a book on my head
    Determined to get it right
    Next time
As if there will be one
    And just when
    I feel back on balance
    You turn an unexpected corner
And at the speed of light
    I am knocked senseless
    All over again

Thank you for your kind comment. I too enjoyed some of the work you have posted. Have you been on this site long?

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
