Welcome, Color

Poem Commentary

I live in the Midwest, so winter really isn't impossibly long, yet... By the end of February I can barely remember what the landscape is like when everything is alive. I wrote this poem in late March 2010 when the colors were beginning to show themselves.

Welcome, Color

Just when I'm beginning to fear eternal winter...
Spring introduces herself, and sepia landscapes give way to
One thousand shades of green adorned with
Uncountable splashes of impossible colors.

I agree - all efforts to color otherwise are only mimicry

thanks! Believe it or not, I attended a workshop at a quilt show where I was introduced to the notion that quilting need not be restricted to fabric, needle and thread, but could include acrylic paints and poetry. That was in April - That's when I began to think of myself as a poet. Thanks for your comment!

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
