Poem Commentary

Written in memory of my friend Miss. Flora Marshall.

When I Look into Her Eye's

When you look into the power of her eyes
     What can you see
The depths of the ruby, prized by crafted perfection
Treasures beyond imagination
The stare, the six-rayed star
     I'm talking about the interior
     God's highly prized possession

When you look into the passion of her eyes
     What can you see
The rare and precious gift
A story of wisdom and truth
Intellect beyond comparison
To any priceless coin silver or gold
Famous for the inscriptions placed inside
Made elegant and splended by design

When you look into the intesity of her eye
     What do you see
A tree of life,
Resting in the Spirits wind of hope
Delivered by the struggles that you may see as defeat
           Strong by every stride
Widespread, the effect of her peace
All these things I do detect living beside me
From Him I believe in her victory
     How would you dare disagree
Her blessings are predetermined
Placed in His hands as free

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
