    WHEN

WHEN YOUTH KNOCKED AT MY DOOR
I WAS TRYING TO EVEN THE SCORE
WHEN ADULTHOOD MY INNER BEING SHOOK
I BURRIED MY NOSE IN A BOOK
NOW THAT MATURITY REARS IT'S HEAD
    MY ATTENTION IS ELSEWHERE INSTEAD
    WHEN DEATH DOES KNOCK
    WILL THE DOOR I UNLOCK

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
