    whirlwind

you and i have defied time
we have defied centuries of prejudice
    nothing could stop the whirlwirld
that brought you and i together
    it was as though destiny
    spoke through time
and i found you and i loved you
i knew it would be hard
that i would have to fight
but i chose the side of love
    not acceptance
but taday those who fought against love
    have won
    and my heart bleeds
for this love that was mine, now gone
    for to choose you
i would have to forfeit my own blood
can we really win this war
this battle against years of hatred
    decades of animosity
will we be the voice of reason
will we blur the lines of race, tribalism, social class
    can we be strong enough?
you and i chose to defy time
    to defy centuries of prejudice
but maybe our whirlwind is not strong enough
    to keep us together

I like this work from the standpoint of its message constructed in simple words and phrases that bring the poem to life. Nice work.
