    Poem Commentary

I was inspired to write this poem on Valentines Day years ago while trying to figure out what was missing in my life. This poem was one of the few I've written that actually flowed from mind to paper in no time at all.

    WILL YOU BE MINE

Will you be my valentine, God asked me just today

Will you give your heart to Me when you kneel down to pray

At first I thought, what a priviledge, yet I choked on my reply

I can not give my heart to You and here's the reason why

My heart's been torn to pieces...it's scattered like the rain

There's parts of my heart everywhere...I hung my head in shame

This heart that dwells within me, bit by bit I've given away

To wordly gain and pleasures that tempt me every day

There's a piece I gave to my family...now that I had to do

Part of my heart's in my beautiful home, where everything's brand new

There's another piece that's deep inside, and that You know is my pride

Another piece is in lustful things, of course, that piece I hide

There's also a piece given to vanity, well I have to look my best

There's so many pieces I gave away, but You know all the rest

I guess there is "one" part left that I can give to You

I'll gladly give it away...do with it what You want to do

God looked down on me tearfully, and said I'll take that part

And my Holy Spirit will dwell in you and soon give you a brand new heart

This heart won't be torn nor tattered, or divided by wordly things

On the day it's completely for Me all the angels in Heaven will sing
