    YOUR JOY AND SORROW

Your joy is your sorrow unmasked
and the selfsame well from which your laughter rises
was often times filled with your tears

And the deeper the sorrow craves into your being
the more joy you can contain

When you are joyous, look deep into your heart
and you shall see, it is that which has given you sorrow,
    that is given you joy

And when you are sorrowful look again,
and you shall find that, you were weeping
for which has been your delight

Some say joy is greater than sorrow
others say, nay sorrow is better
but I say unto you, that they are inseperable

    They come together
and when one sits alone with you at your board,
remember, the other asleep upon your bed

Verily you are suspended like scales
between your joy and your sorrow
    only when you are empty
is when you are at standstill and balanced

And when the trreasure keeper lifts you
to weigh his gold and his silver
needs must your joy or sorrow, rise or fall

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
