    A Brave Pastime

The crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd,
It sounds just like thunder when they're screaming out loud.
Run, go back, oh why'd he do that?
We all think it's easy to swing a big bat.

To catch a fly ball or throw the runner out,
Isn't the effort what it's all about?
The great American dream is to be a good sport.
To have a career that's not cut too short.

Biting your nails, you root and you cheer,
Filling youself with hotdogs and beer.
It's a great pastime, this game that I love.
It has been since I could pick up a glove.

It's the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd,
It's the game of baseball that makes me so proud,
I live in a world that if you miss a game
You can watch ESPN highlights and it's almost okay.

So, be a proud player, it's the greatest game on earth.
It's the heart to play the game that determines what you're worth!

love it! I'm a baseball phanatic!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
