a contrite heart

a contrite heart

I hurt you.
Painfully, violently,
...willfully and willingly...
not
so much
but still.

And, in this,
I hurt me.
Painfully, violently,
...willfully and willingly...
maybe
even more.

To hurt me
for hurting you.
Does my knowing this,
feeling this,
mean I have taken a step?
The first step
on the tragic
road
of contrition?
Redemption?
...forgiveness?

Please.
